On April 20, Keidanren USA hosted a seminar on U.S. antitrust law.  The seminar was organized by the Embassy of Japan and held at our offices in collaboration with the Japan Commerce Association of Washington D.C. (JCAW).  The first speaker, Ms. Lisa Phelan, Chief of Washington Criminal Enforcement Section I in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, gave a presentation on goals and trends of U.S. criminal antitrust enforcement.  The second speaker, Mr. Scott Hammond, a Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, then gave a presentation on international cartel enforcement on Japanese companies and employees.  A discussion then followed on such issues as overcapacity and investigations, compliance programs, and the Antitrust Division’s Amnesty Plus policy.
